Navigation Acquisitions System Engineer

DAYTON, OH.  |  Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

The successful candidate for this funded position will support the Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Program Office (PNT PO) whose objectives are to modernize a variety of existing GPS receivers to meet existing DoD / civil mandates and DoD / national-level priorities. The duties will include planning, executing and controlling technical aspects of acquisition programs. Duties also include organizing, training and supervising a technical support staff. The work involves interacting with senior government personnel on a regular basis to include being called upon to provide technical briefings. As such, this position serves as a technical advisor to government personnel. This position is assigned to government offices at Wright Patterson AFB, OH.


Responsibilities are to provide technical management and engineering support services to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of multiple PNT PO GPS modernization programs.


Specific responsibilities include some or all the following activities:

  • System Engineering planning, requirements generation, and task development and execution for multiple GPS modernization programs

  • Satisfying civil and military mandates associated with Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing requirements

  • Developing/evaluating technical requirements, program strategies, statements of work and acquisition plans

  • Conducting engineering trade studies and technical analyses

  • Evaluating development, integration, and fielding of modernized GPS systems into Joint Service platforms

  • Evaluating OEM performance

  • Bid and proposal review/analysis


Required Experience and Capabilities:

  • Active Secret Clearance

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering

  • At least 7 years related experience

  • Experience as a Systems Integration Engineer

  • At least 1 tour at AF Product/Logistics Center, or similar US Army/US Navy Center, assigned to a System Program Office

  • Participated in development, coordination, and execution of major program milestones (preferably ACAT II but ACAT III acceptable)

  • Experience with defense acquisition management processes as contained in the DoD 5000 series directives

  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbally

  • A clear understanding of the OSD and USAF Acquisition organization


Desired Experience and Capabilities:

  • 10 years related experience

  • Experience with GPS integration on military platforms

  • Level II DAWIA Certification in Systems Planning, Research, Development & Engineering
